haven't had time to hang around much...
Busy busy readying the house for baby, lots of work to do so not much time for putzing on the intertubes. Saw Star Trek tonight, finally. It was good. (spoilers, beware) my few thoughts: there were parts that were rushed like the stuff with Leonard Nimoy. Karl Urban does not do it for me as McCoy. Nor did Ben Cross do it for me as Sarek. In fact...he didn't seem to even be written like Sarek. If you don't remember Ben Cross from Dark Shadows you're not missing anything except a show so bad it was good. Why is Sarek British? Pegg pulled off an accent that isn't his own, why couldn't Cross and Urban? "I want a dragon. How can we put a dragon in this movie? Work on it and get back to me." The stupid alien creature with Scotty, his purpose was what now? Jar-Jar Binks standin? Pegg doesn't need help being funny. Was this creature a reference to TOS that I missed? I haven't seen every ep....s'pose it's possible. will keep my mind open on it as long as I can. I resisted both pine and quinto, but they won me over. I am eternally relieved that the "surprise romance" was NOT kirk and Uhura. That would have made me mad. The got all the easy points though. Fit all the tag lines in, explained the AU plausibly and without dillydallying on the time paradox, irony, check, funny, check, modernized but not too much, check. Extra credit for originality in the Uhura/Spock thing, the nods to TOS with Sulu's fencing, etc. Hoping number 2 will be at least as good, and maybe better since there IS room for improvement.
